Toronto, ON -  A policy paper released by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) this morning, focuses on simplifying the credit transfer process and supporting transfer students in Ontario. The paper was written, approved, and published by students with the purpose of providing recommendations for improved system design, consistency, transparency, and predictability within Ontario’s transfer system.

Toronto, ON – Students in Ontario, through the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance, say this provincial budget brings relief for students.

The most important investment in this budget is a portion of the $2.1 billion in mental health funding that will be dedicated to post-secondary students. In November, OUSA partnered with the College Student Alliance, Council of Ontario Universities, and Colleges Ontario, to release In It Together an action plan for student mental health. The “whole of community” approach recommended in our action plan has been adopted by the provincial government’s commitment to integrated care. Other recommendations, such as resiliency training for students in K-12 education to help their transition to post-secondary education have been captured in this year’s budget. In order for post-secondary students to receive the portion of this investment they need, the government still needs to recognize post-secondary education as a priority group in their strategy.

The paper was written, approved, and published by students with the purpose of providing recommendations for: standardizing definitions, data collection, financial barriers, student success and accessible childcare.

Toronto, ON - A policy paper released by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) this morning, focuses on the improvement of the health and wellness of students in Ontario. The paper was written, approved, and published by students with the purpose of providing recommendations for mental health, substance abuse and addictions, medical accommodations and OHIP+, sexual health and physical health.

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance has endorsed a letter written by OurTurn: A National, Student-Led Action Plan to End Campus Sexual Violence. This letter is addressed to the Minister of Advanced Education and Skills development to highlight the need for minimum standards for all campus sexual violence policies, and more oversight for institutions so that they can be accountable to Ontario’s campus sexual violence legislation.

Toronto, ON - Students, represented by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA), react positively to the Speech from the Throne delivered by Her Honour the Honourable Elizabeth Dowdeswell today. Students were pleased to hear about the continued commitment by government to expand financial assistance opportunities under the new Ontario Student Assistance Program, as well as the expansion of access to mental health care for youth in schools and our communities.

Toronto, ON -  Yesterday, the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance kicked off the #StudentsVote campaign, encouraging students to Pledge to Vote in the upcoming provincial election. The campaign engages students from London to Sudbury with the same message - it’s important to cast a ballot in June.

Toronto, ON -  The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance is releasing budget recommendations for the government, titled Educated Investments: Creating Opportunities for Student Success. This submission highlights the need for further investment in open educational resources, experiential learning, and university funding to maintain and improve the affordability and quality of a university education in the province.
