TORONTO, April 27, 2017 – Students were pleased with many of the announcements in the newly released 2017 Ontario Budget: A Stronger, Healthier Ontario. Last year, Ontario’s plan to build the province up made landmark investments to student financial aid through the new Ontario Student Assistance Program (OSAP), which will begin this fall and provide increased financial supports to over 230,000 Ontarian students. The 2017 budget continues to build on the principles that post-secondary education should be affordable, accessible, accountable, and of high-quality.

TORONTO, April 19, 2017 – Students were pleased with the recommendations in the Premier’s Highly Skilled Workforce Expert Panel report, Building the Workforce of Tomorrow: A Shared Responsibility, released less than a year ago. The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) participated in the consultations leading up to this report, resulting in the inclusion of recommendations from our Student Employment Policy. Today OUSA proudly supports another step towards improving students’ employment outcomes as Charles Sousa, Minister of Finance, and Deb Matthews, Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development, announce the province’s new Career Kick-Start Strategy.

TORONTO, February 6, 2017 – The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) is excited to announce the release of three reports covering the affordability, quality, and accessibility of post-secondary education in Ontario. In November 2015, OUSA conducted its biennial Ontario Post-Secondary Student Survey and received over 10,000 responses to a series of questions asking students about their undergraduate experiences. The reports will be released over the course of three weeks at ousa.ca beginning this Wednesday, February 8th, 2017.

TORONTO, January 23, 2016 – Students at the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) have published their pre-budget submission Educated Investments: Safeguarding the Educational Experience to the provincial government. Its recommendations focus on four key areas: centralized data, supporting student services, preventing sexual violence, and advancing work-integrated learning (WIL).

TORONTO, December 5, 2016 – Student leaders representing over 140,000 undergraduates from across Ontario travelled to Queen’s Park last week to meet with Deputy Premier Deb Matthews, MPPs, ministers, party critics, and political staff. Representatives from the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) sat in almost fifty meetings asking for mandatory training in sexual violence prevention for all university community members, fair and affordable tuition regulations for domestic and international students, and improved data collection and reporting across the entire sector.

TORONTO, November 21, 2016 – Students across Ontario are participating in #myWILis, a campaign raising awareness about how students from all programs can benefit from valuable work integrated learning (WIL) opportunities. The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) is rallying students to lend their voice on and offline regarding what work integrated learning is to them. Student responses will broaden the definition of WIL to include learning, capstone projects, working in student government or in research labs, volunteering on committees, and other opportunities that can benefit students in any discipline.

TORONTO, September 23, 2016 - The Premier’s mandate letter to the Ministry of Advanced Education and Skills Development (MAESD) offers encouragement to students and signals that the government is ready to move forward on a number of issues that students have been raising.

Today’s release of the 2016 Ontario budget announced enormous changes to financial assistance that will make university education more accessible and affordable, according to the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA). The newly announced Ontario Student Grant (OSG) builds on existing programs to increase the amount of grant money available to students, and according to OUSA, focuses on helping students with the most financial need.
