Toronto, ON -  The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance is releasing budget recommendations for the government, titled Educated Investments: Creating Opportunities for Student Success. This submission highlights the need for further investment in open educational resources, experiential learning, and university funding to maintain and improve the affordability and quality of a university education in the province.

Statement from OUSA President, Andrew Clubine:

On behalf of the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance, I would like to welcome the Honourable Mitzie Hunter to the role of Minister of Advanced Education and Skills Development. We look forward to working with the Minister on all aspects of this important portfolio - from continuing to examine strategies for improved mental health on campus, to emerging student priorities such as open educational resources.

Toronto, ON -  This morning, the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance kicks off the 2017  Student Advocacy Week. Students from across Ontario will be travelling to Queen’s Park where they will be advocating for investment in Open Educational Resources, improving the Tuition and Funding frameworks, and supporting students and their mental health.

Toronto, ON -  A policy paper released by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) this morning offers a broad stance on students’ vision on the ideal structure and function of Ontario’s post-secondary sector. Through evidence-based recommendations, this paper provides tangible policy options that protect the values of an affordable, accessible, high quality, and accountable university system.

Toronto, ON -  A policy paper released by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) this morning outlines the organization’s vision for Open Educational Resources - such as those available free through the Ontario Open Textbook Library. This paper captures students’ thoughts on OERs and explores how students feel the government can continue to expand on their recent initiatives with eCampusOntario.

Toronto, ON -  A policy paper released by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) this morning, focuses on enhancing the accountability of public universities in Ontario. The paper was written, approved, and published by students with the purpose of providing recommendations for accountability mechanisms to public goals and priorities in the areas of: quality assurance, Strategic Mandate Agreements, university governance, and Ombudsman offices.

Toronto, ON - The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) welcomes investments made in the employment of young people in today’s 2017 Ontario Economic Outlook and Fiscal Review. The Minister of Finance announced $124 million to support the hiring and retention of young workers in small businesses through incentives.

Toronto, ON - A policy paper released by the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) this morning, focuses on enhancing the experience of Indigenous students in the province. The paper was written, approved, and published by students with the purpose of providing recommendations for reconciliation in post-secondary education in the areas of: financial and non-financial barriers, decolonizing and Indigenizing institutions, Indigenous support services, and Indigenous employment and community development.

TORONTO, Nov. 2, 2017 - Ontario’s students, colleges and universities are calling on the province to take immediate action on the growing problem of student mental health with an integrated strategy that begins in kindergarten and continues through high school, post-secondary life and adulthood.

TORONTO, August 1, 2017 - Student organizations across the country today released a joint publication on student mental health, titled, Shared Perspectives.

The publication includes contributions from the Council of Alberta University Students (CAUS), the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA), the New Brunswick Student Alliance (NBSA), and Students Nova Scotia (SNS), and was produced with the support of the Canadian Alliance of Student Associations (CASA).
