Hello everyone!
My name is Tobi (she/her) and I’m very excited to be joining OUSA as the Manager of Communications.
Empathy: Our Greatest Superpower
I often think about what draws leaders and activists to advocate.
What is the reason some people dedicate their lives to ensuring that others’ voices are heard and their situations are improved?
Share Your Bill 33 Concerns - An Email Template for Your MPP
Earlier this year, the government tabled Bill 33, which would give the province more power to control the fees that students may or may not pay. These fees support vital services and programs that students rely on such as:
- Food banks and emergency housing assistance
- Mental health and peer support services
- Campus clubs and cultural organizations
- Representation for marginalized and underrepresented students through advocacy
- Legal aid, equity centres, and transit programs

The Inside Scoop Behind the Docuseries!
When I first joined OUSA as the Advocacy and Communications Intern for the summer, I was told that I would have the opportunity to work on a capstone project. I wasn’t entirely sure what I wanted to do, but I knew I wanted to try something new where I could further learn and develop skills as well as create something meaningful. This project allowed me to further explore my interest in creating short-form content and develop various skills, such as video editing. I was also able to see how advocacy and media lean on one another.
I’ve dabbled with creating short-form content here and there, but it was something I used to do for fun. I started to play around with the idea of creating videos for OUSA’s Instagram, but couldn’t entirely figure out how to do it in a way that would reflect a “capstone.” Then, I decided it would be cool to create a docuseries.

First, happy July! I hope you’ve taken some time during Disability Pride Month to engage with art, media, and stories from folks with disabilities. I also hope it’s been a productive and fulfilling time for you!
Money Talks – The Need for Further Accessibility and Investment in PSE
At OUSA’s Fall 2024 General Assembly (GA), we passed the renewed edition of the Student Financial Aid policy paper. It was by far the most debated topic over the course of GA, and for good reason. Changes in financial aid policies impact a large portion of post-secondary students in Ontario. We’ve either personally felt or have seen our peers suffer anxiety over not knowing when our OSAP money is going to hit our bank accounts.
