Shé:kon! My name is Sophia Carnovale (she/her/they), and I’m thrilled to be back as OUSA’s Indigenous Policy Intern this summer!
I am both Italian and Mohawk Wolf Clan from Six Nations of the Grand River. This fall, I will enter my 4th and final year at Brock University to pursue a Bachelor’s of Public Health Honours with a Minor in Indigenous Studies.
In my free time, I run a small business making beaded lanyards, earrings and more! Check out my Instagram @beadworkbysoph! I also coach youth soccer most weeknights and play on the weekends!
I first heard about OUSA from my friends at the Brock University Students’ Union. They introduced me to the advocacy and programming that OUSA runs to support students. I knew I wanted to get involved immediately!
Last summer, I served as OUSA’s first Indigenization Strategy Intern and fell in love with the organization! I’m so excited to continue to contribute an Onkwehon:we perspective to OUSA’s initiatives! This summer, I will be focused on gathering Indigenous input and authoring the Indigenous Students Policy Paper.
Please feel free to reach out to me at [email protected]. I’d love to connect and discuss how we can work together to support Indigenous students and promote cultural understanding.
