OUSA Publishes Issue 18 of Educated Solutions:
From Global to Local: The Complexity of Internationalization
TORONTO - The Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA) has released Issue 18 of its annual magazine, Educated Solutions. This year’s publication focuses on internationalization within the Ontario post-secondary landscape, where our partners explore the present and future of internationalization in the sector.
“As the province navigates rapidly evolving immigration policy and the shifting landscape of internationalization, it is vital that conversations about supporting international students and addressing sector shortfalls continue,” said Michelle Wodchis-Johnson, President of OUSA and the Vice President of External Affairs at the Western University Students’ Council. “The post-secondary sector has a responsibility to its learners both domestic and international, to create a safe and empowering environment, and now is the time to envision innovative ways to do so.”
Recent changes in policy and outcry from the international student community have sparked conversations about how post-secondary education is transforming. Institutions across the province are grappling with the challenges of reduced budgets and creating new strategies to support evolving student populations. As the policy landscape evolves, it is essential that we continue to engage in critical conversations about international student supports, sector sustainability, and maintaining a strong post-secondary community. These considerations encompass many facets of post-secondary education, as this year's authors write about a diverse range of topics such as international student mental health, strengthening faculty’s capacity to support, internationalization policy shortfalls, and the future of internationalization, among many others.
“While internationalization is not a new policy directive, it must be appropriately evaluated during this time of substantial change,” said Octavia Andrade-Dixon, Manager of Research and Policy at OUSA. “It is integral that sector partners, community organizations, faculty members, students, and the provincial government alike work together to ensure all students have equitable post-secondary experiences, regardless of their immigration status.”
Each year, Educated Solutions gives post-secondary stakeholders across Ontario an opportunity to provide their thoughts, opinions, and insights on issues affecting Ontario’s post-secondary education system. OUSA hopes that the diverse perspectives in this year’s edition will offer insight into how all post-secondary sector leaders and partners can work together to shape the future of post-secondary in ways that enhance the collective student experience. "It is important now more than ever to encourage meaningful dialogue between sector stakeholders and student voices on the complexities of internationalization," said Abishane Suthakaran, Manager of Research and Policy at OUSA. "We hope these insights will drive collaboration and foster a well-supported and enriching post-secondary experience for all students."
