Hi everyone!
Thank you for taking the time to listen to what I have to say (read what I have to write?) I’m really excited to be back with OUSA for the 2022 - 2023 academic year as an observer member and a representative for students at Ontario Tech University.
My name is Joshua Sankarlal (most people just call me Josh), and I’m serving my second term as President at the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU).
I’m a recent graduate from Ontario Tech with a Bachelor of Information Technology in Game Development and Entrepreneurship. I’m a long-time programmer turned game designer and user researcher. During my time in school, I developed a passion for developing and designing games with an accessibility-centric approach and I love creating experiences that bring people together. Feel free to reach out and ask me about my video game opinions, or my other passion: student advocacy.
I started my journey in student leadership in 2018 as the Event Coordinator for the Game Development Students Association at Ontario Tech University. From 2019 until graduation, I served as President. It is safe to say that my time representing students in my program kickstarted my interest in student advocacy. At Ontario Tech, my team and I worked to introduce policy at an institution-level that helped students being charged to access evaluation material, and that work continues at the OTSU.
I’m so glad to be working alongside OUSA and my colleagues at the OTSU on a variety of student concerns. I believe that education should be accessible and delivered equitably and fairly, while prioritizing the well-being of students.
I’m looking forward to another great year of student representation and I strongly believe that we can change post-secondary for the better with one another’s support.
