Hi everyone! My name is Timna Habta (she/her), and I am excited to step into the role of Vice-President Administration and Human Resources for the Ontario Undergraduate Student Alliance (OUSA).
I recently graduated from Wilfrid Laurier University with a degree in Communication Studies and Cultural Studies, alongside minors in English and Women & Gender Studies. Throughout my time at Laurier, I have had the privilege of experiencing university life through many different perspectives – as a student, volunteer, teaching assistant, co-op student, peer support staff, and student leader. Across all these roles, two constants have remained at the centre of my work: improving student representation and strengthening the student experience. It is this passion for student life and advocacy that led me to pursue the role of Vice President: Government & Stakeholder Relations at the Wilfrid Laurier University Students’ Union (WLUSU).
Over the years, I have worked across various departments at Laurier focused on student support, communications, outreach, and academic success. Through my experiences as a Racialized Peer Academic Coach, Campus Ambassador, Instructional Assistant, and Student Communications & Outreach Assistant, I have had the opportunity to connect directly with students from many different backgrounds and stages of university life. These experiences have continually reinforced the importance of accessible support systems, equitable representation, and creating environments where students feel genuinely heard and valued.
As I begin this role with OUSA, I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity to work alongside passionate student leaders from across the province. I look forward to supporting OUSA’s mission of advocating for a post-secondary education system that is accessible, affordable, equitable, accountable, and high-quality for all students in Ontario.
Outside of school and advocacy work, I love reading, music, digital content creation, and finding new cafés to study in around Waterloo. I am always excited to connect with others, hear new perspectives, and continue learning from the communities around me.
I am looking forward to the year ahead and all of the conversations, collaborations, and opportunities it will bring! If you’ve got questions or want to share, please don’t hesitate to reach out. I’d love to connect and hear your stories! You can reach me at [email protected] or [email protected].
