My name is Eloghosa (Elo) Avenbuan, and I am the President of the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU). This year, I will be part of OUSA as a steering committee member, and I couldn't be more excited about what the future holds.
Having recently completed my Bachelor of Science in Biological Sciences, I have been heavily involved in the student union throughout my academic journey, enhancing my leadership skills with each passing year. My first involvement with the OTSU occurred in 2021 when I worked as a Customer Service Representative, actively engaging with students. In 2022, I assumed a new role as the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusivity (EDI) facilitator for the union, advocating for programs and initiatives that are equitable for all students. I was then elected Vice President of Student Life in 2023, which allowed me to engage with students on a deeper level and enhance campus culture through programs and events. Last year, I was elected as OTSU's Board Chair, a position that allowed me to continue advocating for students and overseeing the organization strategically.
Outside of the student union, I was also heavily involved within my faculty, serving as the science council president for 2024-25, a position that represented 1000+ science students. Within my role, I led several initiatives, such as an end-of-year gala to celebrate achievements within the science faculty.
With each one of my roles, my passion for student advocacy and leadership has grown stronger, leading to my involvement with OUSA. As this will be my first time being actively involved with OUSA, I am excited about the opportunity to learn, grow, and, most importantly, raise students' voices on a provincial level. I look forward to contributing my experiences and knowledge to OUSA, carving a path for those who will come after me.
When I am not working, I love to hang out with family and friends, watch my favourite shows, and most importantly, catch up on sleep!
That's all from me! If you would like to connect, I can be reached by email at [email protected]!
