Hello everyone! My name is Anwoy Barua (he/him), and I am the Vice President of Student Affairs at the Ontario Tech Student Union (OTSU). This year, I will be serving as OTSU's representative on the Steering Committee. I’m entering my second term as VP Student Affairs, and I'm excited to continue making progress on the issues that matter most to our students.
I'm currently a fourth-year Health Sciences student at Ontario Tech University with a focus in Human Health Science, and my long-term goal is to pursue a career in medicine. My journey with the OTSU started a few years ago, and each role I've taken on has deepened my understanding of what it really means to advocate for students. As Vice President of Student Affairs, I've had the opportunity to work on many meaningful files, from transit accessibility and rideshare safety through our Midnight Miles program, to a housing affordability campaign aimed at connecting students with better options in the Durham Region. I've also contributed to OUSA’s work on system-wide policy issues as an author on the forthcoming Tuition, Ancillary and Incidental Fees paper.
My path to this role wasn't a straight line. My interest in student leadership began in elementary and high school, when I ran for student government but didn't win. Those losses didn't discourage me; if anything, they sharpened my drive. That persistence eventually brought me to the OTSU during undergrad, where I finally found my footing in student government. My time with the OTSU keeps me grounded and reminds me why representation and persistence both matter.
Going into this term, I'm looking forward to building on the previous year’s work, deepening my engagement with OUSA, and making sure Ontario Tech students have a real voice at the provincial level.
Outside of work, you can find me out with my camera at events, hunting down a new fragrance, or playing games on my PlayStation. Feel free to reach out at [email protected]!
