Presidential Update - September 2018

Hey everyone,

We’re looking forward to seeing everyone back on their campuses! This past month we’ve been busy preparing for the upcoming term, while also hosting a couple events.

To kick off August, we hosted OUSA’s very first Policy Symposium. The aim of the symposium was to bring together stakeholders, university officials, government colleagues, and representatives from OUSA’s member schools to discuss three main issues affecting students: experiential-learning, student health and wellness, and technology-enabled learning. Experts across various sectors sat on panels to answer questions and continue the conversation on OUSA policy. Our Executive Director, Sophie, summarized the day in a blog post here. Make sure to visit our Policy Symposium website to view some of the presentations that you missed!

Immediately following our Policy Symposium, students leaders from our member schools gathered at McMaster University to discuss best practices amongst their respective campuses. Our student leaders also discussed topics concerning post-secondary education such as: Mental Health/Integrated Wellness, Org. Structure/Long-Term Planning, Race/Diversity, Engaging/Marketing to Students, Crises on Campus, Freedom of Speech, Volunteer Appreciation/Outreach/Management, and Environmental Sustainability.

Keep an eye out for OUSA on your campus in September and October. We’ll be visiting each school to present to your boards/councils, pass out more information on OUSA, and hand out OUSA SWAG! We’ll also be launching our annual magazine, Educated Solutions, in the coming weeks, so stay tuned!

Until next time,

Danny
