Presidential Update - November 2018

Hey everyone!

This month we’ve continued our cross-province tour and only have one destination left, Laurentian University. We’ve been chatting with students about their issues, OUSA’s advocacy efforts, and we’ve been handing out some OUSA swag as well.

We also hired our new Research & Policy Analyst, Eddy Avila! To learn more about Eddy, read his intro blog here.

At the end of October, OUSA wrapped up a successful #StudentsVote campaign which encouraged students across Ontario to vote in their local municipal elections. Each of our member campuses were engaging students in how and why to vote for their local city councils. You can check out more of our efforts here.

This past weekend, we hosted our annual Fall General Assembly at McMaster University. We passed three policy papers: Tuition, Teaching and Assessment, Technology Enabled Learning. We also passed a stance related to Freedom of Speech and Expression. Check back in the next couple of weeks for our finalized policy papers.

In the next coming weeks, we’ll be sitting down with Members of Provincial Parliament (MPPs) to advocate for safe and healthy university campuses and ensuring graduates are prepared for the workforce. We’ll be discussing issues such as: ending sexual violence on campus, international students’ health, the mental health puzzle, technology in education, post-graduation finances, and experiential learning.

Until next time,
Danny
