Hi everyone!
My name is Karen Albrecht and I’m a recent Trent University Durham graduate (yay)! Double majoring in History and English Literature, I have learned the past helps us to move forward allowing us to gain insightful context and hopefully not repeat our past mistakes. As President of the Trent Durham Student Association (TDSA), I am excited to start advocating for students on our small but mighty campus. I have experienced first hand that a small group of students, if determined, can do anything they dream.
My involvement with the TDSA began when I was in second year, assisting my friend who was campaigning for Vice President of Campus Life. After that I was hooked. I ran, and won, my position as Director of English Literature for the TDSA Board of Directors. As Director, I advocated for my cohort of English students and attended Library Advisory Committee meetings. This past winter I ran for TDSA President with the hope of continuing the legacy of the organization and improving students experiences on our campus.
This year, I hope to speak up for international students, and to give them more representation on our campus, and to make their move to Ontario more easily accessible. I am passionate about experiential learning experiences, as I believe it launches students careers in the workplace giving invaluable exposure.
On a more personal side, I have two adorable dogs whom I love dearly, making me strive to get out of the office as much as possible. I spend a majority of my time with my large family, 4 older siblings and 5 nieces and nephews - being with them always puts a smile on my face.
I am determined to do my best this year in advocating for all Ontario undergraduate students striving for an affordable, accessible and quality education.
