Introducing Crystal Mak, OUSA’s New Operations & Communications Coordinator

Hello blog readers!

My name is Crystal Mak and I am beyond excited to introduce myself as the new Operations & Communications Coordinator at OUSA’s Home Office. I have big shoes to fill and I can’t wait to get started!

I just finished working with Western’s University Students’ Council (USC)   in their Promotions department, where I worked on multiple marketing campaigns, put on events, and learned the importance of student governments. Before that, I attended Western and completed my Bachelor of Management with a specialization in Consumer Behaviour.

I was heavily involved throughout my undergrad and I thrived on being as busy as humanly possible. I took part in sophing, elections committee, being Vice President Communications for Social Science Students’ Council, and being part of a sorority. I met so many different people through my extracurriculars and it all made for a memorable student experience, something that many others share at Western.

I first learned about OUSA when I heard about one of their general assemblies and the policy papers being discussed there. I was drawn to the student-centric nature of OUSA and the strengths that I could bring to this role, given its similarities to the USC. In light of the Student Choice Initiative, it’s a really important year for OUSA to demonstrate our value to both students and the provincial government.

More on me: I grew up in Vancouver, British Columbia, so you can usually find me bragging about how much cooler the sushi, scenery, and outdoor activities are over there. But moving to Ontario was the best thing I’ve ever done and I’ve always been drawn to the busy city of Toronto, which is why I can’t wait to work right in the heart of downtown.

I am so eager to get into this role, grow, and learn from all the people I interact with.

What’s next for me is hearing from you! I want to know what readers want to see in blog posts, what concerns students have, and what OUSA can do for you.

So get in touch! You can find me at [email protected] or keep up with me @crystalkarmenmak on Instagram.
