My name is Armaan Singh, I use he/him pronouns, and I am the Advocacy Commissioner for the University of Ottawa Students' Union (SÉUO-UOSU). I am very excited and optimistic to serve as an observer-member this year on OUSA's Steering Committee and to help better advocate for students on the provincial level.
Originally from Mississauga-Streetsville, I am entering my third year in my undergraduate studies, pursuing a B.Soc.Sc. honours in Political Science, minor in History, in French immersion. Throughout my academic career I have had a passion to take on leadership roles and immerse myself in my university community. In my first year, I was involved as a committee member on the International, Political and Policy Studies Student Association's (AÉÉIPPSSA) Public Administration Committee. The next year I was elected as AÉÉIPPSSA's VP of Equity and Activism which was a catalyzing year in my own self discovery for my passion for student advocacy. This allowed me to catapult myself into running to be my student union's Advocacy Commission for the 2021-2022 mandate.
I have many ambitious goals that I would like to achieve throughout my mandate. I want to spearhead progressive policies and issues in order to ensure that finances are not a barrier for students to pursue a post-secondary education and to ensure that the climate emergency is being addressed. I am also very passionate about housing rights awareness and student participation in democratic processes.
Even as an observer-member, I would like to advocate for more affordable education and to further engage students across Ontario in order to have more students voting in our elections. Furthermore I want to help lobby provincial stakeholders to ensure that student issues are being properly addressed.
I am confident and optimistic about the contributions I can make towards provincial advocacy at OUSA and am ecstatic to work with the steering committee to help realize our goals as a collective!
