Introducing Avina Li, Communications Assistant

Hi everyone! My name is Avina (she/her), and I’m so excited to be joining OUSA as the Communications Assistant!

I’m headed into my 3rd year of Medical Sciences at Western, specializing in One Health. I was drawn to this specialization within the program because of its interdisciplinary nature, which tackles the broad topic of human health through a variety of natural and social science perspectives.

I was first introduced to OUSA by a great friend, and grew to love the organization! In particular, I remember reading their blog about including political science in STEM. As a STEM student taking courses mostly in the natural and physical sciences, the topics in political science and general political discourse didn’t usually cross my radar. OUSA’s blog post was very eye-opening,  allowed me to reflect deeply on the media that I consume, and made me seek out more information about the policies affecting undergraduate students in Ontario. I was intrigued by the Communications Assistant position at OUSA as I believe that it combined my interests in student advocacy and graphic design. I’d love to become more involved in the discussions around undergraduate education in Ontario, and to spread awareness and spark conversations on topics that affect all students. In particular, I believe in affordable education for all, and that cost should never be a barrier to receiving good quality education.

I also love making designs that bring awareness and joy to others, and I’m so happy to be creating new promotional material for all of OUSA’s socials and lobbying work. This year, I look forward to working with a variety of people and to helping them bring their projects to life!

In my free time, I love to crochet stuffed animals and watch horror movies, often at the same time! Feel free to reach out to me at [email protected] if you’d like to connect!
