Hello, my name is Andrew Beach and I’m a fifth year student at Huron University College at the University of Western Ontario.  I have been heavily involved in student government and our Senate over the last few years, and have only recently become more interested in the provincial and federal work our council takes on in conjunction with our lobby partners.  I’ve had the chance through my volunteer work to learn much more about the financial aid system both at Western and as offered through OSAP, and I am extremely excited to have the chance to take on a project such as this.  When I found out the OSAP living allowance for food and nutrition was only $7.50 per day, I was amazed to think that an average meal on campus costs about this much.  As such, I am excited to have the chance to work with OUSA to draw attention to the issue, and I’m excited to stay in touch with the individuals at our partner institutions to hear about their experiences trying to stay well fed and well nourished throughout this experience.  OUSA’s Blue Chair Campaign last year really opened my eyes to a number of these issues, and I’m excited to have the chance to participate in this one to not only increase my knowledge, but to educate others as well.
