BUSU's Blue Chair Poster
Welcome to the Blue Chair Campaign at Brock! This year’s campaign takes place from January 18th to 22nd.
This year, we will be focusing on the shortfalls of OSAP, including:
· Maximum awards below the cost of living in Ontario cities
· Expecting too much parental support based on income
· Textbook maximums below the actual cost of books
· Allowing students to earn only $50/week before clawing back OSAP awards
· Not allowing any personal savings for emergencies
· Maximum loans frozen for four years, losing ground to inflation
· A “grace period” which isn’t actually interest free
Look for the blue chairs scattered throughout campus with volunteers who can explain more about these issues. We encourage you to sign the petition to fix OSAP, which will be forwarded on to the provincial government.
Also check out the campus for hidden food items all week long. Did you know OSAP expects you to live on just $7.50 per day for your total food budget, all year long? Find a can of Alphagetti or Kraft Dinner and have one of those meals “on us”.
Find our roving video camera in either the lobby of the BUSU Building, in Mac Chown “A” Block, or by the Fishbowl to share your OSAP or education stories on camera. All participants will be entered into a draw for cash prizes.
Finally, stop by www.busu.net <http://www.busu.net> for a listing of all the services BUSU offers for you, including emergency Food Vouchers, Emergency Student Loans (interest-free), and advocacy efforts at all levels of government.
